What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)?
NLP is a model of excellence and achievement. It came about in the early 1970’s when Richard Bandler (a mathematician, physicist and computer scientist) and John Grinder (a linguistic Professor) came together to find out what patterns led to outstanding performance. They looked at therapy, education, business and sports. Then they modelled outstanding peoples behaviour and made out patterns of thinking that determined their success. This evolved into a model to understand how we as humans perceive the world, how we organise our thinking, feeling, skills and behaviour.
NLP is a constant developing field and a very powerful tool for moving forward to a desired state rapidly. In comparison to some counselling practices where the client can spend months or years in therapy NLP moves them forward very quickly utilizing the power of language. In counselling often what happens is the client is reliving painful and sometimes traumatic experiences, what this does is it strengthens the neural networks and heightens the feelings, taking the client a long time to recover – if at all. Through NLP these patterns can be interrupted and replaced with more resourceful ways of thinking/feeling and being. The effects of NLP can last a lifetime and completely change lives for a wonderfully positive future.
More and more research is being done in the field of NLP (see About Us for details of Lisa's research).
